Green Kingdom

How can a fast food restaurant act as an agent of change in creating a more sustainable and equitable city?

Green Kingdom proposes a new fast food model as an instigator of change in the urban landscape. White Castle, the classic burger chain based in the midwest, serves as the base upon which Green Kingdom is built. By converting White Castles into Green Castles, a healthier and more sustainable food system, transportation network, and economy are created.

Green Kingdom is composed of a network of Green Castles that strategically introduce new menu items, programs, and services designed to encourage greener lifestyles. Vegetables are added to the menu, bike share stations are installed at each location, and an entrepreneurial food supply system offers community members an additional source of income and gets more people involved in small scale agriculture. The result is a more sustainable, local, and self-supporting food system that improves access to healthy food and creates a more productive and pedestrian/biker friendly cityscape.
