Impossible Headquarters

Fall 2019 | St. Louis, Missouri
instructed by Linda Samuels

How can we improve the models of food production, distribution, and consumption to be more sustainable, beneficial, and community-integrated?

This three-week design competition challenged my teammates and I to 1) select and develop a site in St. Louis to house Impossible Foods’ new headquarters, and 2) create a new prototype for a fast food chain that sells Impossible Food’s plant-based burgers, all with the goal of creating a more sustainable and beneficial food system. Joe Mueller, Dongzhe Tao, Ye Liu, and I selected the site of Lemp Brewery, a historic brewing complex that lies mostly vacant, as the site for Impossible Food’s new headquarters. White Castle served as our point of departure for Green Castle, a new fast food concept that prioritizes the biker and pedestrian and introduces produce grown on-site to the menu. Integration with the community and improving access to healthy foods were primary considerations in our design, which was awarded 1st Prize.
