Land Art as Activism

How can works of land art be used to raise awarness of environmental injustices and inspire action for positive change?
Landscape architects are uniquely equipped to address environmental injustices, working to create mutualistic environments of equity and care. Unfortunately, in a neoliberal system, our efficacy is often limited by the whims of the market. Issues known to our profession are not always areas of concern for the greater public, and it can be difficult to execute restorative projects without public demand or political will. In this gap, works of landscape art offer a potential bridge of communication between landscape architects and the broader public. Landscape art has the potential to aid landscape architects in furthering environmental justice initiatives by raising awareness of and garnering support for restorative projects. This potential will be explored and documented in this research project.
